Linum Usitatissimum is a cultivated plant with minimal branching save at the tip that grows in tightly spaced field settings. It is used internally in Ayurveda for chronic constipation, functional abnormalities of the colon caused by laxative abuse, and irritable colon, as well as as a demulcent preparation in gastritis and enteritis. Externally, powdered seeds or press-cake are used as emollients in poultices for boils, carbuncles, and other skin ailments. It is also found in Soothing body lotion, which is intended to treat dry skin.
